Albuquerque, New Mexico, February 23, 2000 --
Khoral Inc. today
announced a Web development and systems integration project in partnership
with Albuquerque-based Ibero-American Science and Technology Education
Consortium (ISTEC). Khoral will assist in the development
and maintenance of an innovative educational science and technology
Internet portal to increase technology transfer between universities,
government organizations and corporate entities across the globe. ISTEC
selected Khoral to help develop this comprehensive World Wide
Web site to foster scientific and technological education through joint
international efforts in research and innovation.
ISTEC is a non-profit organization comprised of over 100 educational,
research and private sector institutions in the Latin American and
Iberian regions. ISTEC's founder, Dr. Ramiro Jordan, is a professor of
Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico.
"Based upon the contributions that Khoral has made towards
the advancement of science and technology, ISTEC is now able to bring a
new form of institutional cooperation between all ISTEC participants,"
said Dr. Jordan.
New Mexico participants in the project include the City of Albuquerque
Office of Economic Development, Sandia National Laboratories, Los
Alamos National Laboratory, the University of New Mexico Electrical
and Computer Engineering Department and Computer Science Department,
Motorola's M.CORE semiconductor products division, Aquilla Technologies
and Khoral Inc.
U.S. Senator Pete Domenici endorses this New Mexico-based effort. "ISTEC
has successfully integrated industrial and academic interests, resulting
in a working relationship that is economically sound and mutually
beneficial to all members," said Senator Domenici.
The Internet portal project is a technology-based effort allowing ISTEC
members to maximize collective resources, exchange information, identify
common problems, develop solutions, and efficiently deliver services
and products resulting in greater sustainable development.
"By combining the needs of our multidisciplinary partners with the
resources that ISTEC possesses, Khoral is developing the most
complete and extensive Internet portal in science and technology for
the region," said Jack Whittier, President of Khoral.
Additional private sector participants in the ISTEC portal project include
Motorola, Nortel, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Agilent Technologies,
Inter-American Development Bank, Invenio Technology, and VeriBest.
